With the demand for dedicated and accessible spaces for pets and their owners on the rise, the City of Redmond is responding to the community’s needs. Following the successful introduction of the first pop-up dog park at Luke McRedmond Park in Downtown Redmond in 2023, the city is expanding its efforts to provide more opportunities for furry friends to frolic and play. These temporary pop-up dog parks serve as a testing ground to evaluate different locations and gather feedback from the community.

The decision to launch these pop-up dog parks is a thoughtful response to the growing demand for pet-friendly spaces in Redmond. As our community continues to grow, so does the number of pet owners looking for safe and accessible locations where their dogs can exercise and socialize. These pop-up parks are an innovative solution, offering a valuable resource for the community while also allowing the city to assess the best ways to meet the long-term needs of its residents and their pets.

The Selection Process

During the 2022 budget process, dog parks emerged as a high-priority need identified by the Redmond community. In response, Redmond Parks and Recreation introduced an off-leash dog area at Luke McRedmond Park in 2023.

After evaluating potential sites in Downtown Redmond, Luke McRedmond Park was chosen for its proximity to housing, parking, bus routes, trails, and a spacious lawn area. The success of this initial pop-up park paved the way for the selection of Hartman Park as the second location based on community feedback.
